Montgomery County Release Meanings
“Released” describes a custody event, but it does not always mean that a person walked out free of all government control. A Montgomery County detainee might leave after posting bond, receiving recognizance, completing a sentence, getting a dismissal, or receiving another court order. A sentenced state inmate may leave confinement on parole or Earned Release Supervision. A person may also depart one jail only to enter the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration authorities. That last group consists of transfers, not community releases.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department is the verified county custody and records doorway. Its official sheriff page does not identify a separate jail building or publish an inmate roster. Sheriff Jeff Tompkins and the regional facility can help identify the actual custodian. The agency that carried out the exit holds the operational release record. The court holds the legal order, while MDOC holds state sentence and discharge information.

Montgomery County Release Routes
The route after custody decides which record can answer a search. A county release record should state the local disposition and destination when those facts are recorded and public. MDOC records serve a different role for a person committed to state custody. Court files explain legal authority, but they may not record the minute when facility processing ended.

A person who leaves a county roster may still be in custody. The release disposition and receiving agency settle that question.
Escape and death may also appear as custody-ending classifications. They must not be described as ordinary releases. Use the exact agency term rather than forcing every outcome into one broad label.
Montgomery County Release Record Fields
A focused request should seek enough fields to distinguish an actual exit from a forecast or transfer. The regional facility's historical records are useful because they show how related fields can point in different directions. A row marked RELEASED described status at that dated snapshot. Its Scheduled Release field was only a forecast, while Billed To identified the charged agency rather than the legal custodian.

The exact vocabulary is agency-specific. For a state prisoner, the public MDOC detail uses “Tentative Release Date,” not “confirmed release date.” An MDOC parolee-search match can show that a person moved from confinement to parole, but it is not a complete historical discharge record. Actual release or discharge facts should come from MDOC Records.

Request Montgomery County Release Records
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department publishes no dedicated records form, fee schedule, or response estimate. Start there to learn which facility held the person. If Carroll County Regional carried out the custody event, confirm which office holds the operational record and send a parallel focused request when needed.
- Gather the full legal name, date of birth if known, approximate booking or release range, arresting agency, and any booking or case number.
- Contact the sheriff at 614 Summit Street, Winona, MS 38967, by telephone at 662-283-3343 or email at jtompkins@montgomerycountyms.com. Ask which facility is the custodian.
- Request the booking and release or discharge record. Name the actual date and time, disposition, destination or receiving agency, booking number, charges, case numbers, bond details, and booking photo.
- Ask for reasonably segregable nonexempt material and a written legal basis for anything withheld. Request a cost estimate before fees exceed a limit you choose.
- Reconcile the agency record with the court order or MDOC record. A legal order and a physical exit are related, but they are not the same event.
Miss. Code §25-61-7 allows reasonable actual-cost fees. No verified local flat fee should be assumed. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History guidance explains that an office with a written public-record policy may allow up to seven working days, while an office without one should provide access within one working day. Ask which policy applies.
Montgomery County Release Record Law
The Mississippi Public Records Act, Miss. Code §§25-61-1 et seq., governs access to agency records. Section 25-61-5 addresses inspection, copying, and written denial timing. Section 25-61-12 covers law-enforcement and investigative exemptions as well as public incident-report information. Release facts can still require redaction for an active investigation, protected personal data, sealed material, or other lawful limits.
No fixed online retention window exists because Montgomery County publishes no live roster or release archive. Historical public-record responses prove that dated regional records have persisted, but they do not establish the sheriff's retention schedule. Ask the custodian which schedule governs an older booking. Court and MDOC records have separate retention and access paths.
Youth Court material is restricted. Sealed or expunged records may also be unavailable through ordinary public access.
Montgomery County Expunged Release Records
Expungement can explain why an older arrest, disposition, or public docket no longer appears. Miss. Code §99-19-71 provides several case-specific paths. One provision addresses an arrest followed by release when the case was dismissed, charges were dropped, no disposition occurred, or the person was found not guilty. Conviction-based relief has different conditions and exclusions. A missing result should never be turned into a claim that the custody event did not occur.
The Mississippi Center for Justice expungement service accepts inquiries from all 82 counties and warns that intake review may take at least 90 days. The Mississippi Access to Justice directory offers another legal-help route. Neither source guarantees eligibility. Current law and the facts of the case control, and some nonpublic law-enforcement material may remain after public records are removed.
Find Montgomery County Released Inmates
The strongest search follows the person through each custodian instead of treating one database as universal. Start with known facts and preserve agency identifiers. The full search path below covers county, regional, state, court, notification, federal, and immigration channels.
- Identify the last known custodian. Decide whether the person was arrested locally, held at Carroll County Regional, committed to MDOC, held federally, or detained by ICE.
- For local custody, call the Montgomery County sheriff. Ask where the person was housed and request the actual release date, time, disposition, and destination.
- If Carroll County Regional was involved, call the facility and give the booking number plus the Montgomery County billing or holding agency when known.
- For a sentenced state prisoner, use the MDOC offender search. Compare date of birth, conviction county, location, sentence facts, and the Tentative Release Date.
- Search parole separately, use SAVIN/VINE for a matched person or future alert, and follow the proper Justice or Circuit Court file.
- Use BOP for federal prison history and ICE ODLS for current immigration detention. Use agency record requests when a public locator cannot answer the question.
A county-wide recent-release feed is not available. The Montgomery County 24-Hour Releases page explains the same-day records fallback, while this named-person sequence continues beyond that missing feed.
Note: A consistent facility record plus court disposition is stronger than a stale PDF, social post, projected date, or missing roster entry.
MDOC Montgomery County Release Search
The MDOC Inmate Search accepts First Name, Last Name, or MDOC ID Number. An ID is most precise. Name searches require spelling variants and an identity check against the date of birth, conviction county, sentence, and location. This search applies to a person committed to Mississippi state custody. It does not cover many Montgomery County bond releases, dismissed cases, time-served misdemeanors, or probation-only outcomes.

The form is a state custody locator. If the expected record is absent or a past release must be certified, contact MDOC Records or use its GovQA request portal for the actual release or discharge, sentence computation, jail credit, and supervision status.
Montgomery County Release Court Records
Release verification splits locally by court. The county courts page assigns misdemeanors and traffic matters, plus preliminary felony work, to Justice Court. A misdemeanor may end there. Felony indictments, judgments, sentences, and later orders belong in Circuit Court, whose Circuit Clerk keeps criminal filings and judgments.
Ask for the docket, bond or release order, final disposition, judgment, sentencing order, jail-credit findings, and later modification or revocation entries. Montgomery County Circuit Court participates in MEC. PAMEC can provide available electronic records, while older, nonelectronic, restricted, missing, or certified material goes to the clerk. The order explains legal authority. The sheriff or facility still confirms the physical exit time and any other hold.
Montgomery County Recent Release Gap
The official county sweep found no Montgomery County 24-hour list, 72-hour list, broad recent-release view, individual booking interface, or sheriff mobile app. The Carroll County Regional source also did not provide a current official release feed. Search results from a Montgomery County in another state must not be substituted. There is no verified local update cadence, online retention window, or current photo field to describe.
For a list covering a defined period, ask the sheriff whether an existing booking-and-release report can be provided. State the start and end dates and request the recorded release fields. An agency may not have to create a new report that does not exist. For one named person, use a focused request instead. VINELink is useful for a future matched-person alert, not as a retrospective bulk log. The dated regional PDFs remain field examples only and cannot be relabeled as current Montgomery County released inmates.
Note: A narrow date range helps the records custodian locate an existing report without implying that an online recent-release feed exists.
Cross-County Montgomery Release Search
The best-documented serving facility is not inside Montgomery County. MDOC now calls it Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility, and it is in Vaiden, Carroll County. Historical sources used Carroll–Montgomery, and dated booking rows were billed to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. A search limited to facilities whose current names contain “Montgomery” can miss the right record.

Search by person, booking number, and agency, not by county name alone. The Carroll County Regional release page separates local detainee records from MDOC prisoner release records.
Montgomery County Release Status Systems
Post-release and notification tools answer narrower questions. The MDOC Parolee Search can corroborate release from state confinement when a person remains on parole. It accepts name or MDOC ID and offers city and county filters. A missing result may mean supervision ended, the status differs, or the name did not match. It does not prove continued confinement.
VINELink supports Mississippi SAVIN/VINE searches and future alerts for MDOC and participating county jails. Montgomery County participation is not confirmed in the published statewide material, so test the live agency list and call SAVIN or the sheriff if no county match appears. A release alert is rapid notice, not a certified record. Registration Link can follow a person into another participating custody system and help prevent a transfer from being mistaken for freedom.
Federal and immigration paths stay separate. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal incarceration from 1982 forward and may show Released or Not in BOP Custody with a date. That proves only the end of BOP custody. ICE ODLS is a current-detention locator, not a historical release archive, and a no-result may reflect transfer, release, lag, or a mismatch. USMS has no comparable public historical locator.

Montgomery County Release Facility
Only one serving detention facility met the Facility Map's verification standard. Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility may hold local detainees as well as people under MDOC authority. A local detainee may leave for the community or transfer to another custodian. An MDOC prisoner's release, discharge, or supervision must be checked through state corrections records.
Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility is at 33714 Mississippi Highway 35, Vaiden, MS 39176, and its telephone number is 662-464-5440. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Department remains the county contact for identifying where a local arrestee was held and for routing a booking or release request.
