Check Montgomery County VINE

A VINE Inmate Check in Montgomery County helps track one named person through a custody change and offers alerts when a participating agency records a release or move. To check a Montgomery County inmate on VINELink, match more than a name and read the agency and status words with care. Mississippi links state corrections records with participating county systems, but local coverage must still be tested. A VINE release check is quick notice, not final proof of where someone went. County, state, federal, and immigration custody each require a different follow-up source.

Montgomery County VINE Coverage

Mississippi calls its service SAVIN/VINE. The Office of Mississippi SAVIN/VINE Services says the program tracks MDOC offenders and people held by participating county jails. That distinction matters in Montgomery County. Published state material does not confirm that the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department feeds records into VINE. A live VINELink search may show the agency, but a missing agency or person cannot be treated as proof of release.

MDOC participation is documented. A person who entered state custody may generate an event through Mississippi SAVIN even if the county path is unclear. A local detainee may instead have been held at Carroll County Regional Correctional Facility in Vaiden. Historical records connect that facility to Montgomery County through billing rows, yet the current facility name omits Montgomery. Search the live service first, then call SAVIN or the sheriff if the expected agency does not appear.

Coverage limit: VINE reports events received from participating booking systems. It is not a complete Montgomery County release archive or a certified release record.

Montgomery County VINE Result Fields

A VINE result is useful only when each field is read in context. The service may retain an out-of-custody result, or it may show a current custody status. Displayed fields vary by agency and record. The table lists the points that should be captured when available, along with the limit attached to each one.

FieldWhat it can showHow to read it
Name and IDThe person and agency identifierMatch both with other identity facts before relying on the result
Agency or facilityThe system reporting the eventUse that agency for direct confirmation
Custody statusCurrent wording supplied to VINECopy the exact words instead of turning every change into “released”
Event or update timeWhen the source posted a changeIt may reflect data entry, not the exact moment a door opened
Notification choicesPhone, text, or email options offeredOptions can vary with the record and live interface

A release-from-custody alert means the participating agency's booking system sent that event. It is fast notice. It does not by itself show that the person entered the community with no other hold. A transfer, temporary movement, return to custody, escape, or abscond-supervision event has a different meaning. “Abscond” means the agency alleges that a supervised person stopped complying or could not be located. It is not a discharge.

No result is also limited. The agency may not participate, the record may use another spelling or identifier, or a released entry may no longer appear. Try a verified ID and name variant, then call MS SAVIN or the last known custodian. Do not turn an empty screen into a claim that the person remains confined or has been released. A dated screenshot preserves what the interface showed, but an agency release record carries more weight.

Register Montgomery County Release Alerts

Registration may be completed through VINELink or by phone. The official MDOC notification page says anyone may register anonymously. MS SAVIN can also help during business hours at 601-359-5759. Automated service is available around the clock in English and Spanish at 888-967-7284, with TTY access at 866-847-1298.

  1. Open the matched person's record and choose “Get Notified” or the current alert control.
  2. Select an offered phone, text, or email method, then enter the requested contact destination.
  3. Complete the live verification or confirmation step. Automated phone registration traditionally uses a four-digit PIN.
  4. Choose the release or custody-change events offered for that record and save the registration.
  5. Keep the confirmation. If custody moves, check whether the registration followed the person.
  6. When an alert arrives, read or hear the full event and verify it with the named agency.

The PIN confirms receipt of automated calls and can prevent repeat calls. Screen labels and delivery choices can change, so follow the current prompts. Direct victims are not automatically enrolled. The MDOC Division of Victim Services can be reached at 601-359-5628 or 866-522-4087 for rights-based notification questions documented by the state.

Anonymous registration makes the service useful for notice without turning the alert into a request for a complete case file. Register against the correctly matched person and agency. If more than one person has the same name, do not enroll until an ID or date of birth separates the records. Each contact method should be kept current, and a registration confirmation should be saved with the offender identifier and date.

Note: A PIN protects alert delivery, but it does not certify the underlying event or reveal a destination that the reporting agency did not provide.

Confirm Montgomery County VINE Releases

A VINELink event should lead to the record custodian. For a Montgomery County arrest, contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department at 614 Summit Street, Winona, MS 38967, 662-283-3343, or jtompkins@montgomerycountyms.com. Ask which facility held the person. Request the actual release date and time, disposition, and destination or receiving agency when recorded and public.

If Carroll County Regional held the person, call 662-464-5440 and provide the booking number or Montgomery County billing agency when known. Ask whether “released” meant a return to the community or a transfer. For a state prisoner, the MDOC Inmate Search accepts first name, last name, or MDOC ID. Its Tentative Release Date is only a forecast. An actual discharge and sentence computation should be requested from MDOC Records at 601-933-2889 or through MDOC GovQA.

Release
An exit event recorded by one custodian. It may lead to the community or another legal status.
Transfer
A move from one agency or facility to another, not freedom from custody.
Discharge
The end of a sentence or supervision status as recorded by the responsible agency.
Parole
Release from confinement under conditions and continued state supervision.

A matched MDOC parolee record can corroborate that a state prisoner left confinement to parole even when the inmate-oriented search no longer gives the expected result. The Carroll/Montgomery Probation & Parole Office may then confirm the local reporting assignment that can be disclosed. MDOC Records remains the better source for a definitive past release date and type.

Montgomery County court records provide a separate check. Justice Court handles misdemeanors and preliminary felony work, while Circuit Court keeps felony judgments and later orders. A dismissal, bond order, sentence, or time-served ruling can explain the legal authority for a change. It may still omit the actual exit time or another hold. Pair the court order with the sheriff, regional-facility, or MDOC record before treating a VINE event as the full custody history.

County, State, Federal Boundaries

VINE is not the federal Bureau of Prisons locator, the ICE detainee locator, or a court docket. A federal prisoner should be checked through the BOP Inmate Locator. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” marks the end of BOP custody only. Another agency or federal supervision may still apply. USMS has no comparable public historical locator, so a federal docket, last facility, or USMS records request may be needed.

ICE's online locator is built for current immigration detention, not a historic release account. No result may reflect release, transfer, a spelling mismatch, or processing lag. Court records serve another role. A bond order, dismissal, judgment, or time-served ruling can explain why custody should change, but the order may not show when processing ended. The physical release time still comes from the facility record.

Final check: Treat every alert as a prompt to verify. Match identity, preserve the event wording, and ask the reporting agency whether the person entered the community or another custody system.
